Post 312 Honors Rudy Keller PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 10 September 2014 12:09

At the monthly meeting of Post 312 a special recognition was presented to Rudy Keller. Commander Grillo's comments are posted below.

"Last Winter a gentlemen called me and asked if the American Legion would like to help with a Memorial Day patriotic event that he was planning at the Kaneland High School.  After a brief discussion of his plans to bring the Healing Field to our local community, I knew this was something the American Legion would do with great enthusiasm.  His plans also included surrounding the entire campus with 2 to 3 thousand American Flags.  The entire Memorial Day weekend was planned out with a Memorial Service honoring our fallen veterans to commence at noon on Memorial Day. All weekend long, citizen from the community came to view this spectacular display of patriotism.

None of this would have been possible if it wasn't for Rudy Keller.  This wasn't the first time that Rudy had planned one of these events.  Rudy has been doing this for a number of years now, bringing patriotism front and center to our hometowns.  In November of 2013, Rudy brought the Vietnam Moving Wall to Aurora High School with the Healing Field. Tens of Thousands of people, young and old visited the site.  Rudy has brought Patriotic Assemblies to our local schools as well, bringing in Medal of Honor Recipients and Military Generals to speak to our high schoolers.  Rudy continues to bring these assemblies to our communities to this day. The next is scheduled for November 7th.

Rudy is changing how we think about our country. He is instilling in our young people and old that the bounty that we have in this country came with a price.  That price was the blood of American soldiers who fought and died so that you and I can live the American dream.

So it is with great honor we salute Rudy Keller and present this plaque of gratitude.  This plaque was hand made by two of our Legion members, Vice Commander Pat Mundinger and Charlie Thalman.  It is a small token of our appreciation for the great things that you are doing".
