UPDATE: At our March meeting the resolution to increase 2014-2015 dues to $28.00 per year passed.
In the January issue of the Department of Illinois newsletter, their is a letter to all Posts in Illinois announcing an increase in the per capita dues that each post pays per member. What this means to you and me is that our dues must go up for the 2015 year. The Department is requesting a $2.75 increase as stated in their letter, posted below.
During our January Post meeting, after a lengthy discussion, a motion was made and then tabled to increase our dues from $25.00 per year to $28.00 per year. Since the motion was tabled, we will open the floor at the February meeting for more discussion and then vote on the resolution. Your Post Officers are not happy with this decision but we are forced to raise the dues. What we can be proud of is that Maple Park Post 312 will still have one of the lowest dues rates in the County and District.
One way that you can save money is by being a PUFL (Paid Up For Life) member. No matter how much the dues goes up in the future, it will not effect you. National has implemented a new 12 month payoff plan so you do not have to pay all at once. I just became a new PUFL member and my savings will be substantial. Please visit the www.legion.org website to become a PUFL member.
We encourage all members to attend our February meeting for the opportunity to discuss and vote on this dues increase.
Please read the Department Letter below.
Commander, Post 312 Maple Park
ATTENTION ALL POSTS
The American Legion Department of Illinois is facing the fact that our annual expenses have overcome our annual revenue. The fact is that the Department of Illinois has not raised the State dues per capita in 8 years. The fact is that if we want to keep the level of service to Veterans and all the Legion programs a dues per capita increase is needed.
A resolution requesting a $2.75 dues per capita increase will come before The American Legion, Department Convention assembled July 10-12, 2014. This will bring the total per capita submitted to $26.00. If passed, all 2015 membership will need to submit $26.00 when processed.
If your Post’s dues are below the $26.00 rate or the post wants to raise dues before the first dues notice is mailed in July 2014 for the 2015 membership year, it is important that the Post Data change form be submitted to Department on time. The Post Data change form will be sent to every Post Adjutant in late January 2014, with a return date of April 1, 2014 to set 2015 dues rate.
Now is the time to discuss this issue and take action. Your District, Division leadership can assist you with this or feel free to call the State membership staff for assistance.
